Valerio Zingarelli
Chief Technology Officer | Expo 2015Valerio Zingarelli received the Dr. Ing. degree (summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Torino in March 1978. He is running Telecommunications Studies and Consulting, his private consultancy company in fixed and mobile telecommunications, considering different technologies and innovative solutions and architectures, and developing the corresponding market and service business cases. Since May 2011 he has been CTO/CIO of Expo 2015, Milan, Italy, which - under the guide of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and with the contribution of BIE Member States - will present an innovative vision of Universal Expositions in the XXI century. From July 2007 to September 2010 he was CEO of Babelgum, an innovative new peer-to-peer web-TV. Prior to this, from May 2006 until May 2007 Valerio was an independent member of the Board of Directors of Fastweb, the second largest Italian fixed network telecommunications operation. From 2002 to 2005 he was Global Director of Networks and Service Platforms at Vodafone Group, in charge of managing all the Group's technology activities and strategy, including customer terminals. Before that, from 1994 to 2002, he has been Chief Technical Officer at Omnitel (subsequently acquired by Vodafone), the new mobile communications Operator after the introduction of de-regulation in Italy, where he was one of the builders of the great success of the Company from scratch. Prior to joining Omnitel, Valerio worked for Alenia - Italy's primary aerospace company - and for CSELT, the research centre of Telecom Italia. Valerio's management roles are complemented by academic activity as Associate Professor at the Politecnico of Turin since 1991 to 2006, focussing on Electronic Communications and Digital Transmission.
